Mourning for Michael - I will never stop singing.

These last few days have brought heartbreak and overwhelming sadness all around the globe of the death of Michael Jackson.

I never knew the man personally, but I do know that he was one of a kind. A musical genius, and a master of imagery. I grew up listening to his music on my dad's old record player with these over-sized earphones I plugged in while sitting in a corner.

At such a young age he was my escape into a Neverland of my own. I carried a key chain with his face on it in my pocket all the time. He was comforting. The Jackson's always had the coolest covers but Michael's were the dreamiest of them all. Moonwalker was a staple in my household as I watched it once every single day as it was a part of my watching schedule along with "Alice through the looking Glass", "Pippi Longstocking" and "Romeo & Juliet" (old styles). My day was never complete if I didn't watch all of these, even if it was cutting into family dinner :)

MJ, was a man in the spotlight at aged 6 and was more like an animal behind glass for his whole life. As a child I had many thoughts and dreams about Micheal; his kind and gentle soul. It is so unfortunate that the people he surrounded himself with were like vampires - sucking all that he had and no one ever gave back to him. Now, they will have his body displayed at a place where his dreams of grand things and his childlike happiness were crushed years ago.

Neverland could have been pure Epic. Why couldn't we have showed him more appreciation then? It was bittersweet to see the last photos the night before his death for his "This is it" concert. He smiled and looked very happy. I guess he died with what he loved doing best. Making his fans happy and most importantly - himself... We will never, ever forget you, King of Pop! Peace.

Angelina Wrona!

Once all the wedding hoopla died down, a kind of calm came over me - and I broke down and purchased a couple of wonderful prints of my favorite local(ish) artist, named Angelina Wrona. If you are into doe-eyed, "Precious Moments" style characters with a darker twist, you might want to take a gander at this Canadian artist from Merrickville, Ontario.

My husband calls me "Bunny" so we thought the crazy huge picture (print) of a girl with a rabbit on her head (see right) would be perfect for us.

We also bought two smaller prints; "Clarice" - based on the character from "Silence of the Lambs" we think ... and "Bridesmaid" – a fitting memory of our wedding. This painting has a quite distinctly different style than her other ones, which is nice … changing it up a bit. this picture (see right) would be more than perfect for us.

Although these are authentic, I wanted a picture that was signed and numbered out of 100, so I contacted Angelina's husband and my parents decided to get me a Petite version of "Redemption" for my birthday.

It is a nice representation of my three lovely, beautiful cats! Beatrix, Krang and Tobias :)

Customizing at Etsy.com

If you’re planning a wedding and looking for something a little different when it comes to wedding jewelry, favors and decorations, consider Etsy.com.

I had Winnie from Hong Kong custom make me a beautiful bracelet (check the picture below) and earrings and necklaces for my bridesmaids. If you want to get creative and have über quality pieces made for less, I highly suggest checking out BijouxDJV.etsy.com. She even sent me a birthday gift … wonderful girl! “My pal!"

And yes – that’s another point to this. Anyone that has had a proper wedding probably knows that costs tend to run way higher than anyone planned – getting this cool stuff on Etsy.com gave me more to spend on flowers ;-)

The main theme for my wedding was peacocks (well – the main theme was old Victorian … but peacock feathers were intended to be a red thread throughout the wedding). All the bridesmaid’s bouquets had peacock feathers, mixed in with pastel colored roses. My own bouquet had pale peacock feathers I had on special order. Jenny Pickle on Etsy.com helped me create the ultimate Mrs. Peacock look, by making a headpiece that matched my bouquet completely. Check out her website at jennypickle.etsy.com.

Check out Etsy.com for anything unique and homemade. You can either buy the finished creations on there, if they fit your needs. Or – find what looks good and similar to what you want, contact the artist and work with that person to get a custom creation that you helped design! It’s such a creative outlet, even for the customer, and it was so much fun. Thank you again!

Formerly known as Michelle Ysebert!

On a perfect day in June, the 20th to be exact, I officially became “Mrs. Hermansen”.

My wedding was a long process, and in the end, was an amazing experience where I wouldn’t want to change a thing - except, perhaps, for the doves that would neither fly nor cry (oh strike a chord, Baz Luhrman!)

I want to post my thoughts and experiences here, both prior to, during and after the wedding, as well as utterly unrelated stuff as well.

I am really “Canada-grown, Norway-(re)bound” (as I currently live in Europe, but planning to move back to Canada late 2009).

They call me “Captain Random”

Welcome Aboard! :)
